38 MINUTES is a New Musical by composer Holly Doubet based on her experience of the 2018 Hawaii Missile Scare.
On the morning of January 13th, 2018 every phone in Hawaii received this emergency alert:
BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
She was in Hawaii that day as people panicked; many began running helter-skelter, some throwing their children down storm drains in hopes of protecting them from the blast, and — as Holly did — calling their loved ones to say goodbye.
38 MINUTES introduces and follows diverse characters through songs and scenes, dramatizing how they transcend the horrifying minutes as both visitors and Hawaiian residents move through fear and despair toward action. They quickly embrace their shared humanity — ultimately coming together to assist one another in accepting whatever might come.
